Whiterosemoxie Is Finding His Voice

I’ve known Moxie for a while now and his development as an artist has been something amazing to witness. In an industry that makes it difficult to stand out, he’s found a way to do so in just about every song he makes.

Moxie grew up heavily influenced by his parents who were avid church goers, and first found his voice through gospel rap. He recalls hearing Chance the Rapper for the first time and grew up listening to a lot of his music from Acid Rap to Coloring Book, which had a heavy impact on him. But it wasn’t until he suffered an asthma attack at 8 years old which put him in a coma for days that he began taking music seriously. After waking up he was determined to make music and put a voice to his feelings. As he continued to grow and the music scene began to change he found artists like Juice Wrld and XXXtentacion, and resonated with them on a deeper level. That whole era of soundcloud rappers made it cool to talk about your feelings and something deeper besides money and fame. You can see it in Moxie’s music that he is doing much more than rapping. Instead it almost feels like a journal entry of what he is going through at the time. He’s speaking for the people who don’t have a voice and making music that is relatable to the average kid nowadays.

His initial release in 2019 , “white gold” is what pushed him onto the scene and currently has nearly 10 million streams on spotify alone.  From there he consistenly was dropping EPs and singles until his debut album white ceilngs was released in 2020. The album was a compliation of different sounds and really demosntrated to listeners who Moxie is as an artist, ranging from more melodic songs to electronic tracks. Fastforward to 2021 and he dropped his second album titled TROJAN and this is what I really belive solidified him as an artist.  The album consisted of a number of hits and songs that I keep on repeat including “Beeline” featuring Tom the Mailman, and “Ring The Alarm”. Both are songs that never seem to get old and you will be singing in your head all day.

Last year in 2023 he released his third album, Fatal Romantic. I had the luxury of seeing him perform the project live at SOB’s in New York City, and it made me love the album that much more. Moxie is an amazing performer and watching him felt like I was in the studio with him as he was recording. My two favorite songs were without a doubt “Never Alone” (which was recently featured on our songs in the rotation), and “Outside”. Both really show his maturity as an artist and his ability to consistently put out catchy music.

At only 21 years old he makes music that is way beyond his years. Venturing into the electronic trap/ hyperpop genre, combined with his Detroit influences he dubs his sound “New Detroit Wave”. If you aren’t on the train yet, try and listen to a few of the tracks suggested in the article and you won’t be disappointed.
