It’s crazy how fast some people come up in the industry, and TyFontaine is a perfect emulation of what raw talent is.
The DMV artist started making music in 2018 and from the beginning he was releasing professional projects with his own distinct sound. He came into the game when the melodic-rap genre was really becoming popular and artists like juice wrld, iann dior, 24kGoldn were becoming household names. Even with all these great names he still found a pocket to get in to and make his name known. He first broke onto the worldwide scene in 2020 when he was featured on the B4 The Storm album in a plethora of songs alongside some big artists like 24kGoldn, Cochise.
Though you might think he was probably listening to rap since the beginning, TyFontaine really did not get into rap until 4th or 5th grade. As a kid he recalls his parents playing lots of gospel music, Mary J Blige, Usher, Neyo which can be seen in the versatility in his voice. As he furthered his career into the rap genre, influences included artists such as Lil Uzi Vert, FatManKey!, and Young Thug which traces of each are apparent in Ty’s sound.
In 2023 Ty dropped a statement album in 264 which I believe is his best album to date. The album included 10 songs with a wide range of sounds and features from artists like Summrs, Joony, and Hardrock. What’s special about the project is that even though the tracks range from more upbeat hype songs to R&B, it doesn’t feel forced and they all fit perfectly together enough to where it sounds like the album is a whole story rather than individual pieces. “DOS” gained a ton of attention with the features from Summrs and Joony and has massed over a million streams on Spotify alone. The production is extremely well-done and is the ultimate song to open up the pits at Ty’s shows. On the other hand “Charge It To The Game” might be the best song on the project and it’s more of an R&B vibe. Ty is really able to show off his unique vocals and the way he hits every note and layers his vocals together to create this perfect harmony is an art.
Because most people started to recognize TyFontaine in 2020 and with the huge amount of attention that came with it so early, it’s underestimated how difficult it is to produce more music of substance. As we all know when someone has a few hits so early people tend to compare the next music they put out with these hits and can never really get past them. This is why its so impressive that Ty was able to put together a project like 264 three years later and show people that 2020 was really just the start of his career and a taste of what he is going to continue bringing in the future.
Ty is set to release his newest album ‘A2’ in late July and we are extremely excited to hear how the artist has experimented and grown in the last year. If you haven’t tapped in yet to his music 264 is a great place to start and prep you for a new album and huge 2024 for TyFontaine.
