NEXT UP- ARMANI WHITE

West Philadelphia stand up! Coming in for this weeks artist spotlight is our very own Armani White.

White, 22, was born and raised in West Philly and like many artists took to music at a young age. He was inspired by artists like Kanye West, specifically his album 808’s & Heartbreaks, which can definitely be heard in his music. His earlier stuff like “Stick Up” is reminiscent of classic hip-hop very focused on the bars and delivery, rather then the modern melodic beats.

When his career was just taking off, receiving praise from artists such as Big Sean, Pharrell Williams, and GoldLink, his father passed away from cancer. Understandably this led White to take a two year break from music. Something our community on our blog here preaches is taking care of your mental health first and it’s inspiring to see an artist like Armani do just that. Taking the time he needed to heal and coming back with an even stronger purpose. In 2017 he dropped “Public School” which was an inspired by his dad.

As he has gotten older he’s been experimenting more and more with his flow. ‘Wonderful’ is a track released in 2019 that comes to mind when you can begin to see the transformation to a more melodic version of Armani, while still staying true to his roots and unique sound. One of my favorite songs by him is “SayWhaat/long ass carride” because it has a funky beat and has old school J. Cole type vibe with a choir in the background.

His most famous track out now is “BILLIE EILISH” which is the IDEAL song that would be played at a concert to get the crowd lit. With over 530k streams on Soundcloud it is his most popular song by far and understandably so. Nine months ago he dropped his second EP Things We Lost In The Fire, which consists of 5 tracks over slow beats even feature a beautiful ballad titled ‘Melinda’.

At only 22 years old it feels like Armani White has put out so much music, but really he is just beginning. I draw comparisons to that of early J. Cole’s and Chance the Rappers when they were starting out, and if that is any indication of where his career is headed we are all in for an amazing ride. Philly ABSOLUTELY has something to be proud of in this one.
