Cordae- From a Bird’s Eye View

Cordae has been compared on multiple occasions to the chosen one: J. Cole. For those of you who aren’t believers, you best hop on the train soon. While he may not be at that stature yet, he is well on his way and it seems like the comparisons are coming true.

I was highly anticipating this album ever since he dropped the EP ‘Just Until’ and gave us the songs ‘Dream in Color’ and ‘Wassup’ featuring Future. Looking back, those two songs gave a great foundation for ‘From a Bird’s Eye View’ and were a sample of the types of songs that would be featured on the album. ‘Super’ is a single that dropped before the album release, and it’s Cordae doing what he does best: telling a story. Every song on the album has insane wordplay that only few rappers in the game are capable of using. Similarly to ‘Super’, Gunna is featured on the album in a song titled ‘Today’ that has a sick beat made up of a heavy base and trumpet loop in the background.

Out of all the songs my favorite by far has to be ‘Chronicles’ featuring H.E.R. and Lil Durk. I first heard the song when Cordae previewed it on Jimmy Fallon and knew instantly it was a hit. The only other time I’ve heard him really sing like that was in the hook of ‘Dream in Color’, and I was very impressed. The hook was catchy, and the verse was well strung together. In that version (pre-album release), I had no idea H.E.R. and Lil Durk were in it, but this just added to the excitement and both of them fit perfectly on the song. Even for you non-Cordae believers yet, I really believe the first-week sales were not an accurate representation of how good the album is, and encourage you to listen to the album with an open mind.
