The first time I was introduced to Elijah August was through Spotify shuffle listening to a station for Midwxst and later came to find out that the artists actually were both featured in a cypher in 2023 hosted by Dotwavnotwave.
The 20 year-old UK artist is relatively new to the scene, but is leading a new wave on alternative Hip-Hop across the pond.
While he has yet to release a full album, he’s started 2024 out strong with two singles that are really good examples of what you can expect from him sound-wise. “Dial!” was released in March and in my opinion is extremely underrated. The track is like a breath of fresh air in what I’ve heard lately, and has consistenly been in the rotation of what I’m currently listening to.
The first artist that comes to mind when I think of Elijah August is Jordan Ward. Jordan has been gaining more and more popularity across the world, and is pioneering a new sound over here in the US that August seems to be next in line to. What’s neat about this alternative-rap wave is the freedom it gives artists to invent new sounds. Lots of these artists are using live instruments and bands within their music and can invent all sorts of creative ways to express themselves.
We’re definitely looking forward to seeing what this kid has in store for the rest of the year and anxiously wait for him to drop his first studio album.
