ARTIST SPOTLIGHT-KWAKU

If you’re looking for a fresh new pop artist to start bumping look no further than Boston’s own KWAKU.

The Michael Jackson inspired artist has been putting out music since he was young and coupled with his love for dancing, music has always been a huge part of his life. He began experimenting on various remixes of songs, but finally grew into his own making his own original music that can range from a plethora of pop to rap.

The song that I first discovered him on was actually via TikTok and called ‘Stuck’ (which is currently his most popular). What struck me was his vibrant and melodic voice, but it didn’t take long to realize that he had the whole package. After a catchy hook where he sings “You love posting all your pictures when you’re down and feel alone…hate that no one really knows you ‘cause you hiding from your throne” it was a wrap.

His sound is versatile and can seemingly transition from genre to genre without making the listener bat an eye. Everything flows. From smooth guitar licks to synth instrumentals I’m convinced that Kwaku can make a hit on either. It will be interesting to see how he expands his sound in the future and keeps experimenting with different genres.

His recent release of ‘X&O’ in July was something a little different from his usual sound, and hinted at more trap music to come, but on Friday he dropped a new single titled ‘Easy’ that goes right back to his pop-roots. An acoustic instrumental blends with a house-style beat to create one of those feel good melodies that give listeners something to blast this summer in the car with their windows down.

After speaking with him I can tell he is one of those artists that is just in love with his craft and the actual process of making music. He wants to push his limits and see how creative he can get with each new track, making something that people will remember. Also, as he continues to experiment with different kinds music, he will be dropping a new song every 2 weeks for the rest of the summer that fans can look forward to.

Kwaku has already packed shows in major cities such as NYC, Boston, and Los Angeles and we hope that we can expect the same for a show in our own city of Philly in the fall. I’m definitely looking forward to his new singles coming out in the next few weeks and can’t wait to see what pulls out out his bag this time.
