SPOTLIGHT: FRESCO TREY

When it comes to music, they don’t make them much more real than Fresco Trey. The Memphis artist is a voice for those without one, and his music is therapy for those who feel alone. In todays age it is so important to openly talk about mental health, and we should consider ourselves lucky anytime we come across an artist who can do this through their music. Trey started his rise to fame in 2019 when he got a cosign from Post Malone after hearing his track “By My Side”, and Malone even invited him on his “Runaway Love” Tour. Later on in 2021 he dropped the track “Feel Good”-an upbeat, good vibe song featuring Lil Tjay- which accumulated over 2 million streams on Spotify alone, gaining him a deal with Warner Records.

Also in 2021 he released a project titled Heartbreak Diaries which was another giant leap in his path to stardom. The album consists of seven songs that all tell a story and evoke dark emotions from the listener (with the exception of Feel Good). The tracks, “Fresh Off A Heartbreak” and “Alone” touch on the emotions felt during a breakup, and the temptation to drown your feelings in a liquor bottle. Music that we can all relate to and play when we’re in our feels. My favorite track on the album hands down is titled “Not That Person”. Although “Feel Good” is the track that blew up I believe this track demonstrates all the potential and versatality Trey has as an artist. The flow is catchy, the lyrics relatable, and possibly most impressive is the shaky vibrato in his voice, reminiscent of Post Malone. Trey is constantly pushing the boundaries of singing and rap, and if he continues to be his unapologetic self and wear his heart on his sleeve, he can continue to be an outlet for all of us.
