Terry Presume is what I believe to be one of the most promising up and coming artists in the industry today. I don’t even think I can categorize him into one genre as he blends in SO MANY different sounds from rap, funk, pop, indie, and alternative.
The Florida musician is trailblazing his own path and not stopping for anyone which is a big part of why his fans adore him so much. His honesty and energy is contagious, plus his euphonic vocals have listeners yearning for more on every track he gets on. On some songs he may be rapping verses in a very Anderson .Paak-esque style, while on many more he is singing over soft low-fi beats. Either way there’s no doubting that there is something very captivating and perhaps nostalgic about his voice that will surely slow down the listeners BPM and put them in a trance.
When I started listening to Terry it was his 2021 EP What Box? and I was hypnotized. The first song on the project is titled “Don’t Wait Forever” and is eerily reminiscent of Frank Ocean. As s slow-moving melancholic track, it has the ability to take you to a whole different reality where you feel like you’re hovering over yourself, watching yourself listening to the music. It sounds weird, but fans of this type of alternative music will definitely understand what I’m talking about, and should definitely check this EP out. Another song I really think is amazing is “Personal” on the same EP. Again it’s an ambient song, but with some really beautiful lyrics. He croons words like “You can’t replace what we had at all…We’ve made mistakes, I fell back in Awe”. And over the low and liquid melodramatic guitar, it combines for a musical masterpiece.
A gentle, vulnerable soul full of tranquility, Terry Presume has the rare ability to reach into the depths of listeners souls and hit a nerve. Everything he’s emitting from the echoey vocalizations in the background to the lyrics in the forefront play on your emotions and will undoubtedly make you feel a type of way. The emotions invoked are different for everyone, but he takes a grip on your heart and makes you feel at home. There’s not many artist that can take you to a place like this so it’s always inspiring and exciting to come across a new one.
I really think Terry is a beautiful human being and makes music that people can relate to no matter the situation they’re in. Also, I recommended that wether you’re a fan of alternative music or not you check out what he has to offer because you may find something that you enjoy and can relate to deeply. Terry is on the rise and we should be on the lookout for more music coming out that can lead us away from our demons and into a happier place.
