YSB Tril is no doubt one of the new artists I’ve found on Soundcloud that makes me VERY excited. When I’m looking for artists I usually start by going to some of the underground music I like and either create a station based off the songs, or look at similar suggested artists. I found this gem while listening to Killval and TOB Duke.
Tae Riley, known by his stage name YSB Tril, is a 21 year old rapper from Clayton, North Carolina. He has a sound that is really mature for someone his age and reminds me of a lot of different rappers infused into one person. On songs like “A Lot” and “OMG” I get a Gunna or Polo G vibe from him, where it’s melodic rapping over a piano beat and heavy 808. On other songs he gives more of a sing-songy upbeat vibe to it, that shows nods to rappers like Roddy Ricch and the late Juice Wrld.
One thing I’ve noticed while listening to Tril’s music is that this man knows how to make a hook. This isn’t saying the rest of the verses are trash-in fact I think he brings a lot of creativity to his verses-but the hook is what the listener is going to remember, and he makes sure you leave with a lasting impression on his music. One of his songs “Count Me In” is even featured on the Madden 22 soundtrack. If that doesn’t tell you the songs are catchy I don’t know what will.
Currently he has two albums released. HOTSHOT which dropped in 2021 and this year he dropped STARSTRUCK 2. You’d probably think that his first album was choppy and unsynchronized as many artists first albums are, but really this wasn’t the case at all. With the intracate flow patters and cadences, he brought so much confidence and professionalism to it that it seemed as if this was his second or third album. Here are a couple songs I think are worth checking out:
- OMG
- A Lot
- PARALYZED ft. Midwxst
- DRUNK CALLS
- AIN’T THE SAME
- COUNT ME IN
I love supporting artists who are waiting for their big break, and I really believe YSB Tril is under-appreciated. Not only does he have the voice to be a rapper, but everything including his style and way he carries himself just proves he’s destined for stardom. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this young superstar.
