The Sky Is the Limit For Shady Blu

Since we’ve set our new roots out here in LA we’ve been excited to tap into the local scene and see what we can find, and we found a gem in Shady Blu. A native of Long Beach, California Blu has a unique sound and is on her way to becoming a household name.

If SZA were a rapper, this is what she would sound like. Blu combines different sounds of rap and R&B in a way that is different from anybody. Every song is so smooth and even the rap songs sound like that could be R&B in the way that she really is able to find pockets to showcase her vocals in.

Blu didn’t begin her music career until the end of 2016 where she first started experimenting with rap over a dare from one of her friends. Her debut EP Topic Of Discussion came out last year and featured 7 songs that displayed her versatility. It was a range of hip-hop, R&B, and more that she absolutely killed.  The song “Topic Of Discussion” has done big numbers massing over 600,000 streams on Spotify and even included a feature from Babyface Ray.

Apart from the music what drew me to her was her perspective on music in general. She describes her relationship with music as a way for her to express what she can’t put into words saying, “When my thoughts don’t come out clearly through conversations, I’m able to fully express how I feel through music”. This is something a lot of us proabably feel more often than not, and a big part of what Lost Souls is. Creating that community of people who feel this way and there is no better feeling as a fan than to see an artist putting out music that puts our thoughts into words.

Fresh onto the scene Shady Blu has an enormous ceiling and can just continue to get better. She is one of the most down to earth and genuine artists we have worked with and if you haven’t tapped in yet, make sure you go check her work.
